It’s been a month and a half since we’ve been at school so “Welcome Back” seems a little belated. Yet that’s precisely the challenges we confront as a self-publishing magazine. But we won’t let those minor setbacks deter us, after all this is the D.I.Y issue!
Our generation is defined by the "do it yourself" movement, switching the focus from the omnipotent corporation to the regular Joe on the street. Going it alone, creating your own success story. Myspace supporting indie bands, the Internet supporting…everything. To paraphrase Andy Warhol, “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes” and he was right!
The Seventy Faces #3 has dipped its toes in this subject of independence to openly express our audacity at being amateurs (what do we know of professional journalism??), to celebrate the self-empowering movement… and to play around with design. An article on how to mix drinks kosher style. An interview with a street artist tagging up NYC. An account of the top Torah websites for self-learning. Useful advice on how to make a Jew in 7 days. A snapshot of an independent Carlebach Minyan and we even throw in a cooking recipe just for you to try out yourself!
All this stuck together with the regular dose of art reviews, community updates, political commentaries, religious musings and more.
It almost goes without saying, doesn’t it? We really hope you like the mag. Pull up a chair, forget about that mid-term and dig in.
Shana Tova (Happy New Year!)
